Book Review: Isosceles by Scott R. Caseley

As you know, we have been touring author Scott R. Caseley’s young adult romantic coming of age romantic mystery novel, Isosceles. The writing is unique and even though the novel spans a thirteen-year friendship and the death of Trey, the transitions are smooth as we get a better understanding of friendship, love and lost. This is a riveting coming of age story that will keep you engaged until the very end.

The romance element isn’t a typical romance story where girl gets boy either. Instead, the reader is thrown into a love triangle with no real answer to a happily ever after for anyone involved. What you do walk away with is the understanding of how the heart loves and forgives, with hope of the fairytale ending.

Now to the mystery in Isosceles, some may say it isn’t really a mystery novel at all. It really depends on how you look at it. Author Scott R. Caseley said in his interview on The Writing Mama, “It is a mystery that is not a traditional whodunit, but more of a whyhedidit, my own term for this sort of thing; though I know, I’m far from the originator of this theme. My main character Sean needs to find out why his best friend Trey has taken his life at the beginning of the book. To discover the answers, he’ll have to go back thirteen years to when they first met and how their friendship and a woman named Madeline, who constantly came between them, each played a role as well as other factors such as his schooling, his parents, and numerous other issues one encounters during their formative years. Along the way, Sean will also learn more about himself and what kind of friend he really was to Trey. In short, discovery of unearthed feelings about those around us and within ourselves.”

In short, we feel Isosceles is a contemporary novel for anyone who loves literature. It’s beautifully written, the characters are deep, it engages the reader and causes us to think and reflect upon our own lives, fears, regrets and success.

If you have that feeling that you’re coming up short…what will it take to feel equal?
