Book Review: Isosceles by Scott R. Caseley

As you know, we have been touring author Scott R. Caseley’s young adult romantic coming of age romantic mystery novel, Isosceles. The writing is unique and even though the novel spans a thirteen-year friendship and the death of Trey, the transitions are smooth as we get a better understanding of friendship, love and lost. This is a riveting coming of age story that will keep you engaged until the very end.

The romance element isn’t a typical romance story where girl gets boy either. Instead, the reader is thrown into a love triangle with no real answer to a happily ever after for anyone involved. What you do walk away with is the understanding of how the heart loves and forgives, with hope of the fairytale ending.

Now to the mystery in Isosceles, some may say it isn’t really a mystery novel at all. It really depends on how you look at it. Author Scott R. Caseley said in his interview on The Writing Mama, “It is a mystery that is not a traditional whodunit, but more of a whyhedidit, my own term for this sort of thing; though I know, I’m far from the originator of this theme. My main character Sean needs to find out why his best friend Trey has taken his life at the beginning of the book. To discover the answers, he’ll have to go back thirteen years to when they first met and how their friendship and a woman named Madeline, who constantly came between them, each played a role as well as other factors such as his schooling, his parents, and numerous other issues one encounters during their formative years. Along the way, Sean will also learn more about himself and what kind of friend he really was to Trey. In short, discovery of unearthed feelings about those around us and within ourselves.”

In short, we feel Isosceles is a contemporary novel for anyone who loves literature. It’s beautifully written, the characters are deep, it engages the reader and causes us to think and reflect upon our own lives, fears, regrets and success.

If you have that feeling that you’re coming up short…what will it take to feel equal?

BOOK DISCUSSION - FRAN LEWIS HOST - GUESTS - THE GENGELS

Heartache and Hope in Haiti: The Britney Gengel Story: Making Our Daughter's Last Wish Come True

$19.95
Special Order - Subject to Availability

Description

When the devastating January 12, 2010, earthquake shook Port-au-Prince, Haiti, Lynn University college
student Britney Gengel was among the five lives from the university lost in the rubble of the Hotel Montana. Britney was in Haiti with an organization affiliated with the university, Journey of Hope, volunteering at an orphanage. Just hours before the earthquake hit, Britney sent this text message to her mother: They love us so much and everyone is so happy. They love what they have and they work so hard to get nowhere, yet they are all so appreciative. I want to move here and start an orphanage myself.

Heartache and Hope in Haiti: The Britney Gengel Story begins on the day Britney was killed and brings readers full circle as her parents, Len and Cherylann Gengel, navigate their way through bureaucratic red
tape on their often frustrating and always painful journey to recover their daughter's body and fulfill her last wish. The Gengels' unimaginable loss transcends into a powerful story of love and resilience, allowing readers a rare window into the inner circle of the heartache and pain of parents who have lost their child and in turn choose to fulfill their lives with meaning and purpose.
***100% of the profits of this book will benefit The Be Like Brit Orphanage in Grand Goave, Haiti.***

About the Author

Len and Cherylann Gengel have been married for over 24 years and for most of those years worked together to raise their beautiful family, daughter Britney and sons Bernie and Richie. Len, who started C & S Builders when he was in college and then received the state of Massachusetts Homebuilder of the Year Award in 1995, and Cherylann, a stay-at-home mom, had no idea their lives would be forever changed on January 12, 2010, when the Haiti Earthquake decimated and destroyed most of Haiti, burying their daughter Britney in the rubble of the Hotel Montana.

Both Len and Cherylann have redirected their lives to making their daughter's last wish of building an orphanage in Haiti a reality, and are currently building an orphanage in Grand Goave, Haiti. The Be Like
Brit Orphanage is designed in the shape of the letter B and can be viewed at BeLikeBrit.org. Len, Cherylann and their family are committed to dedicating the rest of their lives to helping the children of Haiti. Len and Cherylann currently reside in Massachusetts and are avid Boston Red Sox fans. They have hosted many events at their restaurant, The Grand Slam Cafe for Red Sox players and one of Len's most cherished
memories is watching the Red Sox win their first World Series in 86 years on his birthday in 2004!

The Writing Mama Show with Guest Author Susanne Jacoby Hale

Join the hosts of The Writing Mama show on March 18, 2013 at 2pm EDT - 1pm CDT - Noon MDT - 11am PDT
Virginia S Grenier will be chatting with debut author Susanne Jacoby Hale, a former drop-out prevention teacher from New York and author of Shades of Gray.  Jacoby Hale earned a master's degree from New York University in education and creative writing. Although, when she began teaching in the real ACE program, depicted in Shades of Gray, she had no idea that it would change her life forever. Having been out of the classroom for a few years, Jacoby Hale still felt the need to make a difference in the lives of students.

Susanne Jacoby Hale felt the need to tell the story of a dedicated teacher. She believes  good teachers are often unappreciated, while students’ needs are frequently misconstrued. Sometimes the only thing missing in today’s classrooms is compassion. Her book is the fictional account of a new teacher's experience with one of NYC's most notoriously turbulent schools, while attempting to maintain control over her life outside the classroom.

Susanne Jacoby Hale has been featured on NBC, USA Today, and ABC. More information about the book: Shades of Gray by Susanne Jacoby Hale at http://SusanneJacobyHale.com/
