Newly released picture book about a Hopi (pronounced: hope-ee) Indian girl takes readers through many metaphorical doors to explore the different aspects that make each our lives: family, friendship, culture, education, creativity, and nature.

TALASI... A Story of Tenderness and Love exposes children to new experiences as Talasi explores her native world and later the modern culture of the white man while holding to Native American beliefs and traditions. This charming and lovingly illustrated picture book teaches young readers how love and friendships get us over the rough spots in life and to never stop exploring the world around them.

Many American children are growing up in a multicultural world and are curious to understand all the cultures surrounding them. “Traveling through Arizona, I was terrible curious myself about what life on an Indian reservation was like when I visited a Hopi tribe,” said author Ellen S. Cromwell. “I wanted to understand the culture of these amazing people and visited with a kikmongwi, primarily a religious leader for the tribe. This experience truly touched me.”

TALASI…A Story of Tenderness and Love is about a young Hopi Indian girl named Talasi. Her name comes from corn tassel flowers that surround her pueblo home in Arizona. Tassels are tall, slender flowers clustered at the very top of corn. Corn, in its many forms, provides basic nourishment for Hopi People.

Wonderfully written, this children’s book clearly reflects the author’s fascination with the Hopi people and their history. Hopi means “peaceful person” or “civilized person” in the Hopi language and Ellen S. Cromwell evokes a compelling portrait of the Hopi Indians and how they truly are a peaceful people.

You can purchase “TALASI... A Story of Tenderness and Love” through Halo Publishing’s website (http://halopublishing.com), Amazon, and B&N.

A Review Is Just A Review Even If It's Bad

This is an example of a bad review for all the wrong reasons.
Painfully poorly told and written.

By Lori on November 1, 2015
Format: Kindle Edition Verified Purchase
Wow, this could have been such a good book if it was better researched and detailed. Instead it was just lazy writing. I'm sorry to the author but you had so much good material and did nothing with it and also didn't allow this woman to be likeable. She came off as arrogant, self centered, and just down right selfish. There was no elaboration on what she really had to go through in the camp or while losing her family, or why or how her relationship with her husband didn't work out, or what life was like during that time that she felt the need to marry him, or why he wasn't allowed to see his own child. The whole book was mostly about how pretty she felt she was or others thought she was, her modeling career after the war and how that came before her children or her family. I didn't like this woman and honestly about her life. It's sad really. This could have been a great novel for a survivor to tell their story. Maybe the author did not get enough information from this woman, or just didn't feel like writing the full story. I'm not sure, but I would not recommend this book.

This is an example of a bad review for all the wrong reasons.

The reviewer said it could have been a good novel but it isn't a novel it's a memoir of Sala Lewis. On the cover of the book it says as told by. The reviewer said it was lazy writing but as the author of the book that is the furthest thing from the truth. I went to Sala's house every afternoon after work so she could tell me the story. She was a very young girl when this happened and the story was written as she told it. Sala speaks at the Holocaust Museum and the story is written as she tells it each and every time she speaks.

So, when you get a bad review sometimes you just have to look the other way. The reason I am speaking up is because every survivor's story is an important part of history.

Missing Dad: The New Teen Spy Thriller

Displaying
During her years as a teaching assistant in a high school, J Ryan was “blown away” by the courage displayed by some teenagers who were facing severe personal difficulties. Convinced that their bravery would stand them in good stead fighting against society’s worst – including those in the criminal underworld – she set out to create a teen spy thriller series in which they were the heroes. And so ‘Missing Dad’ was born. Volume one ‘Wanted’, forces one teenage boy and his girlfriend to grow up more quickly than they could ever have imagined.

Synopsis:
‘Missing Dad: Wanted’ is the first in a new series featuring the gutsy Joe St Aubin, the teenage son of a secret agent who has disappeared while working undercover.

Desperately missing his father and failing at school, Joe is in deep trouble for driving underage, and suspected of a hit and run. In a chance encounter with the real culprit, a drug runner, he hands her to the police. This attracts the attention of billionaire drugs baron Alfredo Bertolini, who is hell-bent on revenge. Joe is offered a job as chauffeur to the charismatic Monsieur Le Directeur of L’Ä’toile Fine Wines, where tantalising clues to his father’s fate draw him on.

Joe’s world implodes when he realises that he has been set up as a drug runner, with a Bentley loaded with cocaine and men with guns behind him and outside his home. In the most terrifying drive of his life, Joe has to resort to some unusual tactics to deal with his unwelcome company.

But even more danger awaits Joe and girlfriend Becks when they confront Monsieur Le Directeur. The price of discovering whether he is the friend or foe to Joe’s father is a nightmare of darkness, fire and water that drives the teenagers to the edge of despair. By the end of the first novel in the series, Joe knows that Monsieur is the only person on earth who can help him find his father – but the Frenchman has gone from his life.

“This first volume, and the entire series, will grip readers as Joe’s desperate search and love for his father are conveyed on every page,” explains Ryan. “While it is fiction, the characters are extremely true to life. I’ve seen teenagers who were tackling personal difficulties just as bravely as Joe and getting fantastic support from their mates, so I decided to write a story which would honour that.”
Continuing, “I’m launching the book at the school where it all began, and I’m hoping that many students and staff will come and celebrate. But everyone who loves a white-knuckle teen spy thriller will fall for this story – and books two, three and four as well!”

‘Missing Dad: Wanted’, from Troubador, is due for release on November 28th, 2015: http://bit.ly/1KcvYxI.

About the Author:
My grandmother said to me when I was eleven, “You’ll make your living from writing one day.” At the time I was writing a series called ‘The Guardians’, about a family of brothers who rescued people from close shaves, and who bore an uncanny resemblance to the Thunderbirds clan. My school mates used to beg me for the next episode in the series; I still have the hard-backed, neatly titled exercise books tucked away in a drawer.

My gran was right, but not in a way that either of us had imagined. I sort of fell into writing ads and websites for the motor industry. What’s not to like about driving a soon to be launched Jaguar round a test track at terrifying speeds? But I knew this wasn’t ‘real’ writing.

Then I quit the advertising world and went to work as a teaching assistant in ICT at St Peter’s High School, Gloucester. As I got to know the teenagers I worked with, I was blown away by their courage in very difficult situations. There were some who were in foster care, some who were caring for their own single parent and others who had lost siblings. Yet even though these young people had been dealt such a bad hand, they got on with their lives, and their mates really looked out for them.

It was these twin themes of courage when something is deeply wrong with your life, and looking out for your mates, that inspired the MISSING DAD series. These amazing teenagers should be celebrated!

Worthless: Raw, Uninhibited Memoir – Exposing Author’s Rape & Addition – Proves Hope Always Prevails

Displaying
Dark, disturbing yet ultimately full of hope, Robyn Hennessy’s ‘Worthless’ cuts to the core of the author’s life as a victim of sexual abuse, former addict and sufferer of harrowing depression. Having been raped at the age of ten, Hennessy has now lived over a decade with some of the world’s most aggressive demons. But she has finally found happiness; an unlikely transition she wants to share with other victims in the hope that they too will find light at the end of the tunnel.

Up until the age of nine, Robyn Hennessy and her identical twin sister lived a life most would define as “normal”. But what started off as an undiagnosed eating disorder was about to unravel as a decade-long ordeal that nobody deserves to endure. Sadly, Hennessy had a front-row seat to her own version of hell.

Sexual abuse suddenly turned to rape, guilt led to addiction and everything embroiled Hennessy in a state of depression that made her life barely worth living. Hence the title of her compelling new memoir – ‘Worthless’.

Synopsis:
It's never the drug itself that triggers the rush you get, that already inside you.... But the drug stimulates an uncontrollable release of serotonin and endorphins, causing you to feel a surreal happiness you never thought possible. It's only when the drug wears off and all the doors slam shut, that you remember what it is to be alone, struggling to survive in a life so worthless. You don't see anything but darkness, even when you detach yourself from your body and become the spirit watching over it. You need to disconnect because it is the only way you can escape, from a reality that has nothing left for you anymore. My name is Robyn and I was raped when I was ten years old. This is the true story of my life long battle with depression and how, after years of abuse and addiction, I finally found happiness in my search for better life.

“By the age of fifteen I was a victim of abuse, hooked on cocaine and meth, and was known to just about every police officer in my local area,” explains Hennessey. “A childhood is supposed to be about carefree fun, not already being put in a place where you feel that life isn’t worth living. Sadly, that frame of mind is how I lived for almost the next decade. This book divulges that entire story, capturing what it can of the innocence and beauty of childhood that I was able to experience.”

Continuing, “It will strike a chord with anyone who has lived through the wrath of abuse, addiction, depression, self-harm and a host of other afflictions. I want these people to realize that they will never be alone, and that life can turn itself around. Believe me, I spent most of my formative years in the opinion that my only prospect was to end it all. Now I live a life of happiness that I never expected. I hope my story empowers others to seek the same outcome.”

‘Worthless’ is due for release on 7th October, with availability from Amazon and Waterstones. It will also be available as an e-book.

About the Author:
The author is twenty years-old, and an identical twin. She lives in Surrey.
Hennessy has battled depression her entire life, and is now committed to helping other sufferers fight
their demons.
