The Writing Mama Show with Guest Author Susanne Jacoby Hale

Join the hosts of The Writing Mama show on March 18, 2013 at 2pm EDT - 1pm CDT - Noon MDT - 11am PDT
Virginia S Grenier will be chatting with debut author Susanne Jacoby Hale, a former drop-out prevention teacher from New York and author of Shades of Gray.  Jacoby Hale earned a master's degree from New York University in education and creative writing. Although, when she began teaching in the real ACE program, depicted in Shades of Gray, she had no idea that it would change her life forever. Having been out of the classroom for a few years, Jacoby Hale still felt the need to make a difference in the lives of students.

Susanne Jacoby Hale felt the need to tell the story of a dedicated teacher. She believes  good teachers are often unappreciated, while students’ needs are frequently misconstrued. Sometimes the only thing missing in today’s classrooms is compassion. Her book is the fictional account of a new teacher's experience with one of NYC's most notoriously turbulent schools, while attempting to maintain control over her life outside the classroom.

Susanne Jacoby Hale has been featured on NBC, USA Today, and ABC. More information about the book: Shades of Gray by Susanne Jacoby Hale at http://SusanneJacobyHale.com/

Author Rhonda Fisher on Blog Talk Radio’s World of Ink Network show: The Writing Mama –June 30, 2011

Blog Talk Radio’s World of Ink Network Show: The Writing Mama with hosts VS Grenier and Marsha Cook will be chatting with author Rhonda Fischer about “Team Randy” and its efforts to cure blindness.

Rhonda Fischer currently writes for the American Chronicles, Associated Content, World News and World Sentential. She reviews books for Sacramento/San Francisco, HarperCollins and Random House. She is CEO/Founder of Whim Publishing and Author of Randy Kazandy, Where Are Your Glasses? released March 1, 2009, second printing March, 2010. She also has a Randy Kazandy Designer lead-free eye glasses for children named after characters in the book developed by Ooh la-la de Paris in Hollywood, CA. debuted February 2011. Optometrists world wide are starting to caring the new fun, funky, hip Randy Kazandy line. Rhonda is also a member of the SCBWI (Society of Children’s Books Writers and Illustrators).

Rhonda will be running the San Francisco Marathon this year in an effort to raise money for the Himalayan Cataract Project.

Many don’t know that 4 out of every 5 cases of blindness in the world could have been prevented with access to proper eye care. Care that is not expensive.  A $20 donation will cover the costs of an operation to restore the sight of one individual. Imagine if a loved one was blind; a parent, a child, a grandparent. Now imagine for the price of one large pizza and wings, you have given - the gift of sight...

The Himalayan Cataract Project (HCP) has partnered with The San Francisco Marathon to raise awareness and funds for blindness in Ethiopia because the need for eye care is great. In the northern region of Tigray with a population of 5 million, the prevalence of blindness is 1.6%. The current surgical rate, approximately 6,000-7,000 cases per year, is merely keeping pace with the number of new cases. It is not sufficient to address the backlog of approximately 40,000. This is sobering given that Tigray has one of the highest surgical rates in the country.
