WOI: Celebrate Early Childhood Tooth Loss on The Families Matter Show

Summer Reading Programs on The Stories for Children Show

Listen to the Stories for Children Show Monday July 28, 2014 at 6pm Eastern - 5pm Central - 4pm Mountain - 3pm Pacific for a special on Summer Reading Programs and Book Clubs. Mom's Choice & Award-winning Author Virginia S Grenier will be talking about the importance of children and teens reading through the summer months.

Our guest today is Rebecca Kelley, the National Director of Achievement Gap Initiatives of the YMCA. During 12 years with the YMCA of Greater Cincinnati, Rebecca co-led a multi-sector community team that developed the award-winning Cincinnati Community Learning Center initiative and academic enrichment programs, including CincyAfterSchool, a 2013 nominee for National Summer Learning Association’s Award of Excellence. Through school-community partnership, Cincinnati produced a rise in graduation rates during the past decade from 50 percent to 82 percent, and a reduction in the achievement gap from 14.5 percent to 4.5 percent. Prior to joining the YMCA, Rebecca served as the director of knowledge and innovation for Strive’s National Network at the KnowledgeWorks Foundation, she supported more than 90 cradle to career collective impact initiatives.

Indie Author Lynn Steward Joins VS Grenier on The Writing Mama Show

The Writing Mama show is on every Monday and is hosted by Mom's Choice and Award-winning Author Virginia S Grenier, who is joined weekly by guest authors to talk about the publishing and writing industry. Grenier, with her guests, hope to not only share their love of the written word, but also tips on writing, what makes a good book and much more.

This weeks guest is indie author Lynn Steward, a successful business woman who spent many years in New York City’s fashion industry in marketing and merchandising, including the development of the first women’s department at a famous men’s clothing store. Through extensive research, and an intimate knowledge of the period, Steward created the characters and stories for a series of five authentic and heartwarming novels about New York in the seventies. A Very Good Life is the first in the series featuring Dana McGarry.

These two women will not only be talking about writing, Steward's series, but also their love of the fashion world and the romance one can find within.

Story Time From Outer Space - The Stories for Children Show

Listen to the Stories for Children Show Monday June 30, 2014 at 6pm Eastern - 5pm Central - 4pm Mountain - 3pm Pacific for a special treat - Stories read by Astronauts on the International Space Station!

Mom's Choice & Award-winning Author Virginia S Grenier will be talking about Story Time From Space (STFS), a project of the Global Space Flight Education Foundation, a 501 (c)(3) nonprofit. For more information visit www.storytimefromspace.com 

Grenier will be hosting astrophysicist and author Jeffrey Bennett, who launched five books to the International Space Station on January 9. The first book making an appearance is “Max Goes to the International Space Station” read by Astronaut Mike Hopkins from the space station’s seven window observatory, known as the Cupola. The books were selected by the founders Alvin Drew and space educator Patricia Tribe for their solid science and inspirational stories. The books are a perfect spring board for the coming science demonstrations this fall.

To fund the program, STFS has launched a Kickstarter campaign!
Grenier, with her guest Jeffery Bennett, hope to not only share their love of the written word, but also what makes a good book for young readers and much more.

What Is A Buhdeedoo - The Writing Mama Show with Virginia S Grenier

The Writing Mama show is on Mondays and hosted by Mom's Choice and Award-winning Author Virginia S Grenier, who is joined weekly by guest authors to talk about the writing and publishing industry, and their books.

This week on Monday June 9, 2014 our guest is Dorothy Smaniotto, whose son Alex created and illustrated the Buhdeedoo. Alex is a young man with Asperger's Syndrome. He was diagnosed at the age of 6, but has never let that diagnosis slow him down. As Alex puts it, "I embrace my Asperger's rather than look at it as a disability."

Dorothy is the author of her own book called "The Burgundy Journey: Using Hope, Humor & Faith To Conquer Adversity--No Matter What." The book tells the story of her struggles with a rare, incurable autoimmune disease that has caused numerous health issues. It also details how Alex was physically attacked by classroom aides in his previous public school and the emotional scars left with him.

Back to the Basics with Aydan & Addy – “Leadership with Abraham Lincoln” (Tate Publishing) kicks off this series, which is both historical and magical, with leadership mentor, President Abraham Lincoln.
The series features best friends, Aydan and Addy, being led by a different Spiritual Mentor in each magical adventure.

Tremendous research has gone into each book, with Roberts studying the actual lives and historical legacy of the “spirit mentors” in each book.

“There are so many challenges we face in America today, and life in general,” the author says. “I thought for a long time about the importance of getting back to basics and teaching some fundamental values to children through a series of fun and adventurous stories.”

The character Aydan is modeled after Roberts’ own young grandson and Addy is named for the granddaughter of a family friend.
