Author Spotlight: Tal Yanai

Stories for Children Publishing will be touring debut author Tal Yanai and his book, Life Is Not a Candy Store: It’s the Way to the Candy Store all month long in August 2011.

Tal Yanai was not happy with his reality as a child and teen. What he was creating in his life was not in alignment with what he wanted in his heart or what he knew and deeply felt was possible. As a struggling student, he was considered a troublemaker in school. In tenth grade, he was diagnosed with dyslexia, which explained his learning difficulties but it did little to ease his frustration with himself and his everyday struggles.

Then one day, during a bike trip from the kibbutz to the sea, he was asked to take charge and make sure none of the other kids lagged behind. For the first time in his life, at age fifteen, Tal got a taste of what it meant to assume responsibility and be a leader. This one experience planted the seed for his goal to assume a leadership role in his later life.

Today, Tal teaches Hebrew and Judaic Studies in Temple Beth Hillel in the San Fernando Valley as he continues his quest to explore the meaning of soul and achieve his full potential as a spiritual teacher.

In a world driven by instant gratification comes a gem of a book full of wisdom, couched in simple language and written from the heart. Life Is Not a Candy Store: It’s the Way to the Candy Store by Tal Yanai invites teens to engage in both the critical process of self-reflection and the experience of connecting with the larger world.

Yanai encourages teens to become more aware of how their actions affects themselves and others. By exposing them to the simple truths of spirituality, and the beauty and love of a higher power. Yanai hopes readers will find new direction and purpose in a world filled with instant everything.

Book Blurb: A Spiritual Guide to the Road of Life for Teens. This small book is full of wisdom of the deepest kind, couched in simple language and written from the heart. Although the content is geared toward teenagers, it will equally appeal to adults. The combination of spoken truths and humor makes it easily accessible, and encourages readers to go back and reread. Anyone living by this philosophy can do no ham and will radiate the light of gentleness, kindness and peace.

"As a pwhychologist for ten years specializing with teens, I found this book to be a great resource. It helps in explaining the existential situations youth yearn to understand in a way they can easily grasp." ~Robert S. Schwartz, L.C.S.W.

Author Linda Valderrama Teaches Kids that Brushing Can Be Fun!

Linda Valderrama R.D.H. has over 25 years experience as a dental hygienist. She has treated patients from ages two to one hundred years old and has successfully developed preventative oral hygiene programs tailored to individual needs. Linda is a strong believer that good oral hygiene habits lead to good overall health and that these daily habits must be acquired early in life. She is working towards developing programs for schools, assisted living facilities and healthcare institutions to enable them to offer more effective oral hygiene programs.

Linda is a member of the American Dental Hygienists’ Association, the California Dental Hygienists’ Association and the San Diego Dental Hygienists’ Society. Her book “Brush Barry Brush” is to help parents and young children work together to achieve the simple but very important goal that every time you eat, you should brush your teeth.

She currently is touring her recent children's book, Brush Barry Brush during the July '11 World of Ink Virtual Tour.
"This is a delightful and effective introduction to the 'wonderful world' of oral hygiene for preschoolers. It won't be long before Barry is as popular as the tooth fairy! Age appropriate and lots of fun for all. Highly recommended." ~ Gail Flacks, Early Childhood Educator

This is only one of many recommendation Brush Barry Brush as received. This book will help young children stick with a regular routine of brushing and maintaining a bright healthy smile with its unique story and fun chart with stickers.

Brush Barry Brush is a children's book that helps instill in young children the simple, but important, notion to brush their teeth each time after eating. It's no wonder Brush Barry Brush is a 2011 International Book Awards Finalist.
"The picture book is simple and bright, but it carries an important message..." ~San Diego Union

In addition to writing Brush Barry Brush, Valderrama has also made it her mission to educate San Diego's youth, by hosting speaking engagements, book signings and future seminars. The July '11 World of Ink Virtual Tour is just another way for Valderrama to reach out to parents and their children about her mission. Her goal is to minimize our nation's significant, yet mostly preventable childhood disease, tooth decay.
